What do we find instinctively beautiful in the human face and how does this translate to self-image? What assumptions would we make about another person if we could see their ideal self-image?
Original Ideal combines portrait photography and neuroscience to isolate the subjects' ideal self image, a cerebrally sincere preference obtained by circumventing conscious thought.
The subject is presented with versions of their own portrait manipulated to change their facial features. They are then presented with these versions while attached to a brain scanner in order to determine which version they prefer.
These are the results so far.
The left-hand image shows the original portrait and the right-hand image shows the subject's ideal.
